#shopscandismall Alice in Scandiland

Jennifer Morgan caught up with Alice Collyer of Alice in Scandiland, a beautiful store in Lostwithiel, Cornwall to hear how the brand went from garden shed to shop

Alice in Scandiland started life as a blog back in 2015, a platform where Alice Collyer could share her love of design, her home and her DIY projects, all from the idyllic town of Lostwithiel in mid Cornwall. Alice picks up her story…

How did you get from blog to shop?

The blog really took off. I launched @aliceinscandilandshop selling vintage bits and bobs on Instagram in 2018 and I turned my garden shed into a mini showroom/storeroom/photography studio. A few months later, I opened my high-street shop – Alice in Scandiland. It’s a very special building to me as the shop is actually at the front of the house I grew up in, where my parents still live.

What’s different about your brand?

I love to mix contemporary and vintage and help others achieve this. Over the years, I’ve built a wonderful following via my blog and Instagram and brought many of these people with me when I opened the shop. Now, my followers can buy the pieces they like in my house, where they can see them styled and used in my everyday life.

What are your favourite names to stock in the shop?

I stock some really amazing independent makers, like Slow Made Goods, Woodchuck, Clae Pottery and Viki Weiland Pottery to name a few, along with Fine Little Day, a brand I’ve been in love with for many years. It’s such a joy to be so connected with them now.

What does it mean to be a #shopscandismall brand?

It means a lot. I’m incredibly proud of the journey I’ve taken – from shed to the high street and even further online. I’ve achieved this because people got behind me, fellow indies offered words of wisdom and my lovely Instagram followers. They are such supportive people who believed in an idea that I had and came along for the ride with me.
